First night of my beach volleyball league; fith time playing since my injury. I’m feeling great! I look like a moron out there, with a sock over my brace. Whatever. It doesn’t matter as long as I play.

On this team (Yup. I’ve joined 2 teams this summer!), I’m playing with the guy involoved (responsible?) for my injury. He’s declaired: “I can’t play beside her.” Since the only 2 times I’ve hurt myself, he was playing on my left.

Oh it was so great. Sitting on the patio afterwards, having a beer with friends. I’ve missed everyone so much.

Let the summer begin!

You know what I love? I love the fact that since I quit smoking 79 days ago, I no longer smell! I can wear a shirt more than once if it’s not dirty, and it still smells fresh! How great is that?!

People said that once I quit, my sense of smell would come back. Nope. I’ve always had a great nose. Drives my dad nuts. As a farmer, you become immune to manure. Not me though, I know when you smell like shit and try to cover it.

I hate most perfumes and colognes. Actually, I hate them on me and when people smell like they bathe in it. If I can taste your perfume, you’re wearing too much. Most perfumes give me a headache. I hold my breath as a walk though the perfume section in department stores. This coming from the girl with every kind of shampoo, facial cleanser, moisturizer, exfoliator etc.

However recently my friend from volleyball (a perfume sales rep) gave me a ton of samples. I’m lovin’ Be Delicious by DKNY. And shockingly, I’m lovin’ it on me!

I swear everyone in my neighbourhood has been saving their money all year, just to blow it all up in Fireworks this May 24 Weekend.

They started Friday night, and I would periodically hear a bang, or spirally, shrieking whistle, followed by a bang. There was a big blow-out in the park every night until after midnight, and some neighbour was blowing off Fireworks still at 5 in the morning!

I remember when I was a kid, a couple time my parents bought Fireworks to do at home. They sucked. I never thought it was worth it, because I saw how much they spent. But it was fun, hiking back into the field and getting to stay up late.

Fireworks are still my favourite part of May 24 weekend. I like the camping/partying part too, but it doesn’t feel complete without the Fireworks.

All I can smell is BBQ. Car-camping style BBQ. I can’t get rid of the smell (not that I mind it), since my hair is so porous and takes on all environmental smells. (Thank god I quit smoking!).

I decided that I would rather BBQ, since my lazy ass is tired of scrubbing the roast pan every-other-day.

I opted for a cheap charcoal BBQ, since this is really my first time and I heard that you aren’t supposed to have propane on balconies. Why is it that men will allow me to change a tire/oil, drywall, cut the lawn….but will NOT let me near the BBQ?

I guess the answer is obvious. I burned the chicken and it tasted awful; even with my delicious marinade.

Home SadA Molson beer truck over-turned on Wednesday morning in Toronto (spilling 2000 cases of beer!), and made the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update!

The truck hit a Honda on the 401 near hwy 400.

Pulse 24 says:

It was a scene that might have brought Homer Simpson to tears, as a beer truck rolled over on Highway 401, spilling suds everywhere.

I drove by the site today - there’s nothing left :) . What’s funnier is that the accident happened right near Labatt Breweries, only a couple km down the highway!

I should add that no one was seriously injured. Thankfully.

I can’t wait to go to bed tonight. Not because I want to sleep, but because I want to lay in my bed. (Also, I’m nearly done the book I’m reading, and it’s starting to get really good.)

I vacuumed my mattress really well, flipped and turned it. I anticipate a good sleep. I came to realize that my recent shitty sleep is perhaps attributed to my mattress forming to my sleep position; or possibly “bed bugs”, aka dust mites. (Don’t get me started on the bugs you can’t see - that even live on you! I’ll never forget that day in Grade 10 science….made me sick!) Get a used mattress? No fucking way!

Five years ago when I got a new mattress, I remember sleeping soundly through the night for a good month atleast. Now with a Queen-size mattress, it’s not so easy to rotate it myself, in my cramped room. Also, according to the “Mattress Doctor“, after 6 months a mattress is contaminated.

So fresh sheets, a thorough vacuum, and a flip and rotate. Let’s see how it goes.

(I thought about posting a picture of a dust mite, but I could hardly look at them myself.)

Life's Events & Observations and Friends & Family02 May 2005 02:04 pm

My brother called me last night, just as I was doing a good copy of my friend’s taxes; who was on his way over to pick them up. I told them they were ready. Oops! I was just thinking I would drop them off. Oh well. Saves the trip. I think I scared my friend and her b-friend when they got here though. Papers everywhere!

So my brother didn’t call to talk about taxes. He was just asking if I we were coming to his house warming party in 2 weeks. Casual conversation, “what are you doing?” Another clichĂ© for “how’s it going?”. “Just finishing up taxes for my friend who is on his way over. I’ll do mine afterwards.”.

“Really!?! That’s funny!”, he says. “I’m just finishing up my friends as well, and then I’ll do mine. I already did my fiancĂ©es this afternoon. I owe about $1000, so I’m in no rush; but she’s getting money back, and so is my friend.”.

Yup. No questions about it. Procrastination is definitely hereditary.

Life's Events & Observations01 May 2005 05:34 pm

I am the worlds biggest procrastinator. Tax deadline: Tomorrow midnight. Started doing taxes: Today. Oh wait, I haven’t started! I’ve only “organized myself”!

When I heard that the deadline was going to be extended (due to April 30th falling on a Saturday), I thought to myself, “Cool! Another 2 days to stall!”.

What’s the big deal anyways? Revenue Canada owes me! You would think I would be anxious to get my tax return in, so that I could receive my refund sooner.

Let’s just say it’s in my genes. My brother did his 2002 last week, and my dad…well who knows. They keep it to only 3 years behind. Dad being self-employed figures, “they owe me, so what’s the rush?”. Great attitude to have rub off on your children.

Growing up I remember December 31st as a very stressful day. Dad’s year-end, and mom needed his numbers to complete hers.

I did taxes for a friend of mine. His are really easy, and his return wasn’t large enough to justify paying someone to do them. He would end up getting $5. So I offered.

You take your income, add, subtract, multiply whatever percentage given, add a certain amount, and if your # is between this range, go to line #545745 and enter the value. If it’s more/less/or negative, than this $, enter “0″.

All those calculations just to get an answer of “0″. What a waste of time.
