Happy Halloween!
In honour of this day I’ve composed a story (to be posted later), and given anyone the opportunity to do the same. I’ll post your replies giving credit to those participating as soon as I receive them.
So what I want to know is:
What is your most memorable Halloween?
Good or bad, I wanna hear your story.

For the love of coffee
The great extremes one will go to in the morning just for their “fix”.
On this particular Sunday morning, I awoke early due to the time change. This is the only day of the year that ever happens. I lay in bed desperate to take advantage of the extra hour; but could not sleep any longer.
So I got up. Plenty of time to spare before I had to be at school to write my exam. (Yes, school on a Sunday.) I ate breakfast, got ready leisurely, and spent a good 45 minutes reading email, the news etc.
As I am leaving I realize I didn’t make the coffee! I had gotten it all ready: measured the water and ground coffee, but forgot to brew it 10 minutes before leaving so I can drink it hot on my way.
Damn the college not having an open coffee shop on campus on Sundays!
Fuck it. I’ll take the time and run to catch the bus that comes in 12 minutes. It’s only a 7 minute walk. I have time….
Let’s just say that “a watched pot never boils”, just as watching coffee drip takes longer.
So I started my day running @ 8:15 in the morning in 4 degree weather. My lungs were burning, but I had to catch my bus.
That’s when I did the stupidest thing ever. I flagged down a passing taxi and said, “I don’t have enough cash on me to get you to take me where I need to go. So can you just take me to the bus stop?”
The cab driver must have thought I was the craziest person. I got in a cab, which drove me 3 blocks to a bus stop. All in the name of coffee. My precious coffee.
I made it to my exam on time.
(P.S. Wanna know a way to my heart? Remember that Verona is my favourite blend. That, and a double-tall non-fat latte.)
I’m truly a child
Doing a little cleaning up around my apartment today, and I stumble across the packing for the blender I got last month. (My first purchase with AirMiles!) Breaking down the boxes, filing the warranty, then throwing the bubble wrap down on the floor to dance on.
Am I the only one that still does that? Who can resist bursting pockets or air and making noise?
This particular piece of bubble wrap had rather large air bubbles; I had to dance faster to get rid of it so my neighbours wouldn’t start wondering and knock on my door.
Noise travels in my building. I used to here the girl above me having sex (well the bed moving anyways - and then super loud moans), and once my neighbour below questioned what I was doing. She asked if I had a bunny rabbit, because she was hearing a lot of jumping. I had to laugh. It was a recent Athens 2004 PlayStation game I was playing, and you had to run really fast on the dance pad (or bash the controller), in order to get enough momentum to make the jumps. I told her I was running the 400 metres, and doing the vault, and left it at that.
I need to move out and get a house of my own. Sharing noises and smells with my neighbours is getting old.
The rules
If you call me and block your number, don’t expect me to answer the phone. I pay for the service to know who’s calling. Why would I want to answer and speak to someone hiding from me?
Even if I don’t recognize the number I’ll answer.
Alternatively, if you don’t leave a message, I’m not going to call you back.
The two go hand in hand.
So although I see my phone displays you have called 13 times; I don’t care. You didn’t leave a message so it couldn’t be that important.
If you do leave a message, stop calling; or don’t call again until an appropriate amount of time has passed.
I’m not a moron. I got your message, and I’ll call you when I get it. Again, I pay for the service.
Conclusion: If you block your number and don’t leave a message, you never called.
Dealing with things
Over the past 2 weeks I’ve been doing a lot of personal assessment, combined with employment and career assessment/development. Attending seminars and workshops, as well as just a whole bunch of personal reflection.
This past year has been full of events. Many of which I have just closed my eyes and gone with the flow. I haven’t actually sat down and clearly examined what was going on, the consequences, and what my options were.
In the past 2 months, I have endured many family conflicts and events which caused me to further lose focus and to reflect only emotionally on things.
I’ve turned inwards and not dealt with things. It’s just easier that way. It’s still easier that way.
All that being said, my friend and fellow blogger ocB has applied guilt to me a few times this past week for my lack of posting. Part of it’s her fault. If she hadn’t reacquainted me with an old addiction to Pogo, I probably would have posted something sooner. (Damn her and my need to complete badge challenges! I’m never going to get the cribbage one!)
So to any of my readers out there (if there are any, or I have any left), I apologize. I’ll get back into it and not let the local lurkers get to me anymore. Who cares what they learn or think.
And if anyone would like an invite for a free trial of Club Pogo, just leave a comment and I’ll send you one. Then you can join the rest of us while we waste hours….

Saturday Night
Only 1 thing to say: Hockey Night In Canada - Toronto vs Montreal - 3:2.
Yeah baby!
What do I love most about when the Leafs play the Canadiens? (Besides having the Leafs beat them
) I love that you can watch it on 2 different stations with the same broadcast, but different languages; and therefore different views.
English broadcast no longer has the Molson Three Stars at the end of the game; so it was nice to be able to still watch it and see Lindros named # 1 (even though the Canadien fans booed him).
Before I forget
Although it’s Thanksgiving Monday night @ 9PM, it’s never too late:

Gotcha
Yesterday was Auction Day, and the auctioneers wife brought in a sweater for my cousin to try on. She first decided to show my Grandma & I.
When she opened the bag and pulled the sweater out, I almost threw up. The room was quickly permeated with the raunchy smell of mothballs. Gag.
So holding my breath I agreed that the sweater was indeed beautiful, and that I am sure my cousin would like the it.
She proudly put the sweater away so she could show my cousin later; and left to get back to work.
Grandma turns to me and says:
Grandma: Eelchh. Did you smell that?
Me: Disgusting.
Grandma: It’s mothballs.
Me: Have you ever smelled mothballs before?
Grandma: Oh yes! My auntie used to….
Me: Really? How did you get their little legs apart?
She sat there stunned for a moment while processing what I just said. Then the look of shock appeared on her face and she hit me while laughing.
“You’re terrible.”, she said.
Teehee. I’ll say anything to anyone.
I’m a nut
It’s October 7th, 10C degrees outside (50F for those without knowledge of Celsius), raining, and I’m trotting around the city refusing to wear anything but flip-flops.

I wore sandals yesterday and had no one say anything since it was 27C (80F). Yet today I found many people starring at my feet. I didn’t find it cold. I was even wearing a T-shirt.
The last couple days I was helping my dad in the fields do hay (I even got a tan); today people are making sure they have their snowbrushes in their cars.
This is the strangest Fall ever.

Die Spammers Die
Due to an increase in comment spam, I’ve had to add a new plugin for my comments. Although I moderate all comments (your first comment must be approved), somehow I keep getting 5 or 6 spam comments in a row a couple times a day for the past week. And it’s stupid too. The comments include sentences that make no sense, except to say, “I think what you have to say is right” or “wow! great site. I’ll be back for sure.”, and then a link(s) to some other blog(s), and then “small ship set sail”. wtf?
The first morning I woke up and found 10 emails in my inbox indicating there were 10 new comments requesting moderation, I got a little excited. “Wow!” I thought. And then I got mad.
So I started last night trying to get this plugin, that creates a captcha image, to work (SecureImage). However I couldn’t get it to work no matter what I did. I tried every path for ImageMagick, but I still continued to get only the image background, and not the text. I’m not even sure if the problem was with ImageMagick, or if it was something else.
Below is a screen capture of the problem I was having. The top image is my site, and the lower image is what it is supposed to look like.

Whatever. I just gave up and decided to try a different one instead;
Bot Check). This one uses GDlib & MCRYPT, and it was a cinch to install/setup/configure; if I had only read the instructions right the first time

.
I’ll see how this works, and hope it isn’t too much of a pain for the non-spammers and regular commenters.
