Over the years I’ve developed a certain amount of paranoia. In most cases, with good reason. From having strings and tape put on doors and cupboards growing up, to finding key-loggers and backdoor viruses installed on my computer. My cousin has me believing that someone is listening to my phone conversations, and refuses to speak to me if I am using my cordless phone. Why? Because he knows how easily people can intercept the call, because he does it. Why does everyone want to know, or care, what I am doing?
So when I was browsing my bf’s Ebay items sold and purchased, I didn’t know what to think when I saw he had bought a “Mini Wireless Color Spy Camera and Receiver” and a “Video Capture Surveillance Recorder”. I was like, WTF??
So I asked him. I figured he would tell me, since he calls me first thing Sunday morning all excited, just to let me know he’s won an auction. He is however, a self-proclaimed Ebay addict. What did he have to hide?
His response, “I bought that Network Cable Tester and the Sim Card Reader.”. Hmm. He usually tells me everything. Paranoia sets in. I did a scan quickly of my apartment wondering where the camera could be.
A few weeks later I casually ask, “Buy anything lately on Ebay?”.
I wouldn’t normally ask this, since for the last 6 years he has only SOLD things on Ebay. He has a bad gadget addition. Must have the newest - whatever it is. Sell the older one. Mostly cameras, cell phones. So this purchasing thing is new.
He responded with, “Not recently. I’ve told you everything I bough.”
Ok. I’ll just tell him I saw that he bought the mini spy camera. He didn’t flinch, but responded casually with, “Ya. For when my parents go away.”
You know what? I believe him.
